The Olympics

When the Olympics began this summer I wasn't a huge Phelps fan. His attitude and acts as a person overshadowed his acts as a heroic and iconic American athlete.

I changed my mind.

When I saw him tearing up on the medal stand halfway through his record-breaking medal run I came to realize that I don't care that he's made mistakes in his personal life. It's no different than any other celebrity who is monitored 24/7. We all screw up, they just can't hide it.

He's still not my favorite American swimmer, but I definitely respect and appreciate him more after watching him the past several days. I certainly am proud that he's wearing the red white and blue and representing our country so well in front of the biggest global audience.

On a kind of related note, the opening ceremony in Beijing was the most awesome thing I've ever seen on TV. It makes me want to have as much money as China so I could have sweet ceremonies like that on a whim.

The Beginning (Part II)

It would seem that there is no longer a need for a formal introduction from my end, thanks to my HockeyTown counterpart here. However, I suddenly had a strong urge to post something - anything. So i figured, what the heck?!

I suppose that this blog will serve not only as a way for us to rant about major topics of today, including issues of global, political, and professional importance - but also on topics of truly great significance, such as the perpetual dominance of University of Michigan athletics! haha

But in all seriousness, I'm looking forward to sharing my thoughts and opinions on a broad range of subject matters that might arise as we develop our unique perspectives of the world from our respective locations (those obviously being Detroit, MI and Washington, DC). If you do happen to stumble upon our little niche here while surfing on what is known as the world wide web, feel free to join in the discussions, give positive feedback, or even to present arguments! I'm sure we'll appreciate the input! Until then...
